Catch the Jumbo reference? An interesting fact we learned is that elephants drink anywhere from 68-98 litres per day - had Jumbo lived a much longer life, far exceeding any reasonable lifespan for an Elephant - he still could not have consumed remotely close to 55 mega litres if was still alive today. If you are new to Jumbo's Story, you can learn more here.

Already back in 2021, the City of St. Thomas Transportation Master Plan (TMP) Update identified the need to widen Highbury Ave. from Edgeware Road to Ron McNeil Line and South Edgeware Road, From Burwell Road to Highbury Ave. in order to accommodate additional traffic from residential and industrial growth in St. Thomas. In reviewing the improvements to these corridors set out in the TMP and the overall transportation network, an opportunity to improve connectivity between the subject corridors and St. Thomas Expressway (ON Highway 3), was identified.

And truthfully, some of it is pretty fascinating and we are excited to share the process with you. We have developed this online update video series dubbed “From The Beehive” – a nod to the city’s railway heritage – beehive being a slang term for a railroad yard office. So we hope you will join us from time to time - From the Beehive and follow along as we explore the process of site development and the changes we are going to experience as a community. This first episode offers a little insight into some of the required heritage, archeological, environmental, and geotechnical studies that have already been completed at the site. As for what you can expect moving forward, content for these episodes will sometimes be timely to coincide with public meetings or work currently underway, and other opportunities will explore some of the preparation work already completed more deeply. |
