St. Thomas Economic Development, in partnership with the City of St. Thomas Industrial Development Team, has been working to develop a brand new opportunity to keep folks up to date with the exciting changes surrounding the “St. Thomas Mega Site.”
We understand that folks are interested in how this new industrial site will impact the growth and development of the City and surrounding area. And truthfully, some of it is pretty fascinating and we are excited to share the process with you. We have developed this online update video series dubbed “From The Beehive” – a nod to the city’s railway heritage – beehive being a slang term for a railroad yard office. So we hope you will join us from time to time - From the Beehive and follow along as we explore the process of site development and the changes we are going to experience as a community. This first episode offers a little insight into some of the required heritage, archeological, environmental, and geotechnical studies that have already been completed at the site. As for what you can expect moving forward, content for these episodes will sometimes be timely to coincide with public meetings or work currently underway, and other opportunities will explore some of the preparation work already completed more deeply.

As the city prepares for the mega growth that's expected to come with this site and spin-off jobs, the only thing I'm hearing people talk about (of concern) is Highbury Ave. What are the plans to widen and prevent that from becoming a bottle-neck/death trap as traffic flows intensify? Currently there's little to no safe place to pass during rush hour and I see people risking there lives daily. I heard rumors there are plans to build and adjacent northbound road and then turn the current route into a southbound road... is this true? If not are there plans to at least widen it? It's not sustainable in it's current state and everyone know it... and I'd love to hear what plans are in motion to address it.

Thank you - however that just deals with a small strip of Highbury inside St. Thomas... the concern is the amount of traffic to and from the 401 and London. It's going to be a death trap if it's not addressed sooner than later.

The one (of many) concern(s) is the bottleneck of the roundabout. It’s going to so busy at times and then what happens with farm equipment attempting to enter.
