Vianode is a Norwegian company specializing in the production of sustainable synthetic graphite for electric vehicle (EV) battery anodes. Graphite is a critical component in lithium-ion batteries, with each EV battery containing up to 100 kg of it. Vianode’s proprietary technology enables the production of high-performance synthetic graphite with up to 90% lower CO₂ emissions compared to traditional manufacturing methods.
This facility will be Vianode’s first in North America, marking a significant step in supporting the region’s rapidly growing EV market and strengthening the critical minerals supply chain.

Toronto, Canada and Oslo, Norway – [31 October 2025]: Vianode, a Norwegian producer of advanced battery materials, announced that its first large-scale production facility for low-emission synthetic anode graphite will be developed in Ontario, Canada. Synthetic graphite is an essential component in lithium-ion batteries and is critical for a range of defence and industrial applications. Vianode’s production facility was featured as part of Canada’s leadership in the G7 Critical Minerals Production Alliance and will contribute to the diversification of resilient, domestic supply chains that use this critical mineral.
ST. THOMAS — Today, the Ontario government marked a major milestone in the construction of Volkswagen’s PowerCo facility in St. Thomas, which is on track to become Canada's largest electric vehicle (EV) battery plant with initial production set to begin in 2027. With contracts awarded to two Ontario-based companies, concrete pouring is officially underway at PowerCo’s $7 billion EV manufacturing facility, laying the foundation for the 350-acre industrial site.
