From new road connections and roundabouts to underground servicing and even rail installation, there’s a lot of progress to share: 🔹 Yarmouth Yards Phase 3 (J-AAR Excavating) – Sanitary and storm sewers, watermains, pond work, and road connections. 🔹 Technology Trail (Amico Infrastructures) – Road construction linking Highway 3 to PowerCo Parkway. 🔹 Northwest Corner (Blue Con Construction) – A brand-new roundabout at Ron McNeil Line & Electric Avenue. 🔹 PowerCo Parcel – Parking lots and paving completed, base asphalt in place throughout the industrial park. 🔹 Rail Spur & Bridge (Amico + PNR) – Rail installation beginning soon! 🔹 Shunting Yard – Grading and stone placement underway. 🔹 Pumping & Booster Stations – Birnham Excavating is working on shoring, foundations, and water main connections. It’s been a busy few years, and the momentum isn’t slowing down. From roads to rails, the Mega Site is taking shape as a hub of industry and opportunity! Step inside the Elgin County Heritage Centre for a larger-than-life celebration — Jumbomania! 🐘
Join Mike from St. Thomas Economic Development as he meets curator Madeline Howard and guest curator Dariusz Korbiel for an exclusive look at this special exhibition, honouring the legendary African elephant, Jumbo. Instead of focusing on his tragic end, Jumbomania dives into his fascinating life, incredible fame, and the global obsession that followed. From a life-size Jumbo photo and a rare slice of his tusk (only five exist!) to quirky memorabilia, this exhibition is packed with artifacts you have to see to believe. You’ll also hear the wild tale of 125 stolen Jumbo street signs and see some of the rare surviving originals. 📍 Located on Sunset Road between St. Thomas and Port Stanley, the exhibit is perfect to visit before or after the beach. 💬 Comment below with your ideas for naming our St. Thomas EDC mascot. He's a big fan of Jumbo, but wants his own identity — we will take your suggestions to our Board! 📅 Don’t miss this chance to experience Jumbomania for yourself! In this episode, Mike from St. Thomas Economic Development is up bright and early on Scott Street to check in with Darren Willand from the City’s Roads & Transportation Department. Darren introduces us to the DuraPatcher, a game-changing patching machine that’s making city streets smoother—and repairs last much longer.
Instead of the usual cold patch, this heated mix offers a much more durable solution. We're talking up to 8 years of longevity, compared to just a few days for traditional methods. Mike gets the full breakdown on how it works, what it’s made of, and why it’s saving both your suspension and taxpayer dollars. Benefits of Durapatch: Permanent repair: It's designed to be a long-lasting solution, often outperforming traditional asphalt repairs. Cost-effective: It can be more economical than traditional methods, especially for smaller repairs. Environmentally friendly: Reduces energy consumption and waste during the repair process. Reduces traffic disruption: The quick application and ability to open to traffic immediately minimizes road closures. Versatile: Can be used for various road repairs, including potholes, utility cuts, and cracks. Suitable for various climates: Can be applied in different weather conditions. We also learn about a unique City of St. Thomas tradition involving social media appearances and… donuts. Spoiler alert: Mike may have eaten one already. Is anyone surprised? |
