This week, Mike will take you on a drive through the future! Check out what the upcoming changes to Highbury Ave within the City Limits will look like! Take in the preview of the included new roundabouts that will support the movement of traffic; we know folks have some strong feelings about roundabouts, but there are some good reasons they are included here and in the Megasite Plan: Check them out here. This rendered preview also highlights the art pieces that are included in the project: Metal Mind Forge's dandelion titled 'Thriving' which “captures the essence of resilience, growth, and optimism expressed through the lifecycle of a dandelion sprouting from a pile of old railway spikes,” and Shift Landscape Architecture's art piece entitled Fading Memories “that recalls the traditional barn as an object from the area that is seemingly disappearing from the landscape and from the memories of those who spent time around these structures.” Stay tuned through the end of the drive to catch some interesting information about one of the conservation projects in the works for the site as well! These bat boxes are just one of the elements we are excited to share with you as more elements of the environmental stewardship plan start to roll out.

PowerCo Canada Inc. is the Canadian subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group-owned battery company PowerCo SE. We know you've already heard a lot about the company, but we are excited to have the opportunity to start introducing some of the people, too! In today's From the Beehive, Mike is visiting the downtown St. Thomas office of PowerCo Canada Inc. to chat with Kellyn Bezerra, the Executive Assistant to the CFO and one of the first PowerCo Team members to be part of the St. Thomas-based team, about PowerCo and St. Thomas. Welcome to the Hive, Kellyn! Did you know that St. Thomas Economic Development also supports the small business community through our team at the Elgin/St. Thomas Small Business Enterprise Centre? If you are starting or expanding a small business, contact our SBEC team! Welcome back for another edition of From the Beehive! This week, Mike is walking us through another new development in the works near the Megasite. The design-build opportunity is Vicano's newest offering in St. Thomas. It's an incredible opportunity for growth and a well-positioned industrial property for access to distribution networks. More information is linked below. We are also testing out sharing some highlights of our amazing local small business community! If you love this feature, let us know in the comments and help share the information in these videos by sharing them on social media and encouraging others to tune in for updates about the site and the community! From site gates to the new City gateway, check out what the buzz is about this week. He may be on the road, but Mike is energized to share information with the community! Mike shares information about the upcoming Hydro One "St. Thomas Line" project in this week's episode. This new project will power Ontario’s growing electric vehicle industry, support future economic growth, and help bring thousands of jobs to southwest Ontario by connecting the new electric vehicle battery cell manufacturing facility in the City of St. Thomas to Ontario’s clean electricity grid. Full information about the project and the Class Environmental Assessment is available here, including access to more details about the February 21 & 22 public information sessions. Anyone with interest or concerns about the project should plan to attend these meetings to gain more valuable insight into Hydro One's plans. *Mike means a 20km transmission line. Way more efficient than a 200km line ;) Choreography is an important part of any stage production. Every entrance and exit is coordinated. Turns out, it's much the same on a construction site, albeit with fewer flourishes and less iambic pentameter. It's still an intricate process that requires thoughtful planning to coordinate the work being done on-site, especially as more elements get underway as the project progresses. In this week's episode, Mike takes us on a bit of a tour around the site and highlights some of the key elements of the staging plan and when we can anticipate some of the major site elements underway over the next few years. If you have questions about the construction process that you would like us to cover in more detail, leave us your questions in the comments or email us! Thanks for watching! In today's episode, Mike shares the Branding Reveal for the new industrial site in St. Thomas and takes us on a bit of a road trip through the site! Yarmouth Yards was selected as the name for the new industrial park to pay homage to the history of the area and a nod to our railway history. Street naming focuses the development forward with names tied to the first industry to call this new site home. This balance brings together two of our region's best elements - our incredible roots and bright future.
In today's episode, Mike is joined onsite by Harrie, the Construction Manager with Amico, to chat a bit about the current status of construction over at the Mega Site, what challenges the construction team is facing, and what sort of progress can be anticipated once the snow starts to fly.
Don't worry, they are also going to connect about the *most* important job on site! Thanks for joining us From the Beehive, St. Thomas! It's a new year! Welcome back to the Beehive!
From the Beehive is our way of highlighting the work being done to prepare for the proposed industrial subdivision as we welcome Volkswagen Group-owned battery company PowerCo Canada Inc. to St. Thomas. We take our name from the railway history of our community - Beehive being a slang term for a railyard office. We generally film our updates onsite or from the construction site office and work closely with the teams involved with the work on-site to bring these updates to you each week. As construction progresses, we are excited to share the process along with information about infrastructure updates, community information, and more! The updates From the Beehive will change and grow as the project and community do. In today's episode, Mike is back on-site with Nicole to learn more about the role of the roller and the different types of rollers used on-site. St. Thomas is PowerCo Canada Inc.'s first overseas gigafactory for cell manufacturing and will equip the Group brands' BEVs in the North American region with cutting-edge unified cells, a new technology designed for cost-efficient scale production. St. Thomas will also be the largest PowerCo gigafactory to date, with an annual production capacity of up to 90 GWh in the final expansion phase. The planned investment of up to €4.8 billion / CAD$ 7 billion by 2030 has the potential to create up to 3,000 highly skilled jobs at the factory, along with thousands of indirect jobs within the region. Furthermore, the cell factory will be supplied with CO2-free energy. Watching Timelapse videos may lead you to believe that the work on site is done by magic, and in this holiday special, Mike is here to share the hard-hitting truth about just how the Phase One timeline was achieved, just in time for Christmas.
